Have you come out of hibernation yet? If not, it’s time to embrace that spring is almost here, as the first official day is March 19th. Although we will probably still have a big spring snowfall, you can still enjoy each sunny day with your favorite glass of Captain’s Walk wine or hard cider. During March, we will be featuring one of our staple wines, Cabernet Sauvignon. This becomes an instant favorite of our red wine drinkers. It has a cacophony of aromas including jam, toffee and cigar box, all tied together with a hint of toasty oak and mocha. The wine is full of concentrated fruit flavors of currant, boysenberry and ripe plum.
If you’re looking for the ideal food pairing for Cabernet Sauvignon, you don’t have to look very far. Almost any red meat, especially served rare, is going to do the trick. Seasonings that tend to flatter the wine are garlic, rosemary, mint and porcini mushrooms. A simple pairing with blue cheese, Gouda or aged cheddar would also be successful.
