Wine Tasting of Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot Wine Tasting Party

You are cordially invited to Captain’s Walk on Thursday, December 1 from 4-7pm to toast the release of our newest red wine, Petit Verdot. Enjoy this wine tasting with savory appetizers and a tour of our newly decorated Cellar Tasting Room. In it you’ll find a stock of oak barrels, aging our next generation of vibrant red wines.

Note the impressions of our winemaker:
‘This garnet red welcomes you with the aroma of ripe blackberries, maple sugar, and caramel and layered flavors of cacao, vivid  black cherry, and cran-apple. Notes of toasted oak and integrated tannins finish ever so nicely.”

Originally from France’s Bordeaux region, Petite Verdot is used as a blending grape in wines made primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A late ripening variety, it is blended in small quantities to add structure and a floral component to those wines. But this is a “New World” red wine with grapes sourced from the Sierra Foothills AVA, California. Barrel-aged 18 months in our cellar, our Petite Verdot has legs to stand on its own!

Captain’s Walk small batch wines allow the savvy wine taster to experience small, regional tastes. You won’t find these wines on store shelves – we save them just for you at the winery. The small batch series helps us to try out new ideas. Wines that are well-received can eventually show up under our regular label. We’ve celebrated local Door County Marquette grapes, and have explored Tuscan blends. Another guest favorite has been our Fumé Blanc, a barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc. Chardonnay isn’t the only white that can benefit from barrels! If you have been collecting the small batch series from the beginning, you’ll be excited to add this to your anthology!

No reservations are needed to attend this Thursday night wine tasting. Simply visit us on December 1 from 4 to 7 pm. We look forward to sharing the evening with you!
